How would you describe your photography career?
When I was a teenager, my parents lent me their camera and I was instantly smitten! A hobby soon became a passion and I spent countless hours processing and developing all my bw images the old fashioned way in the darkroom. After attending University of British Columbia and graduating with a fine arts degree, I came to Hong Kong to work as a full-time in-house photographer at Cathay Pacific. After a few years, I decided to start up my company Rosa Tseng Photography, photographing weddings, events and portraits. During this period, I attended workshops in US, Italy and Australia, learning from some of the top international wedding and portrait photographers in the field. We have been in business for almost ten years now, expanded our team of main photographers, assistant photographers, digital artists and image consultants, and our boutique studio has developed a strong reputation worldwide.
What type of photography jobs does your team photograph? And how do you work together?
We currently have two main photographers, Rosa and Vincent, and a few assistant photographers. I, (Rosa) am the main portrait photographer, shooting all images for ROSAKIDS, our portrait/family photography line. And after having photographed over 400 weddings, am currently working as the director during weddings, assisting the couples on posing, and working with my team throughout the day on angles and lighting. Vincent photographs weddings, and all events work such as birthday parties and anniversary dinners. We will make the photography fun, lively, efficient, creative and as unobtrusive as possible.
How would you describe your photography style?
Expression and emotion is important in our imagery. We want our images to tell stories, to strike a chord in the viewer. We mainly photograph families and wedding couples, so it gives us great pleasure to know that we've created lasting images that will become part of a family's history.
Can you describe your portrait style?
In order to let the child's expressions shine through in the photos, we use simple minimal backdrops. Our studio is equipped with different monochrome backdrops and neutral canvas backdrops to best fit the subjects we are shooting. We also can do location work as well. And in post-production we don't believe in utilizing wild photoshop effects, but keeping it real and artful, with natural, subtle retouching effects. Again, our aim is to express in visual terms, the connection and bond within family.
What are your rates and what kind of packages do you offer?
In our 'Request Information' section of the website, please send us an email and we can check our availability and share with you our rates and packages. For weddings, you can give us a brief overview of your wedding, such as wedding date and a basic rundown, so we can create a quote for you. For portraits, we sometimes have promotional offers, and our website will display our current specials.
How much should I budget for wedding photography?
Photography expenditure should fall roughly between 10-15 percent of the entire wedding budget. This is a figure acknowledged within the wedding industry. Your photos will be one of the only tangible reminders of your wedding day and an important family heirloom.
